Byelorussian Steel Works is "The Leader in Power Efficiency"
Byelorussian Steel Works became the winner of National Contest “The Leader in Power Efficiency” organized by Power Efficiency Department of State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus and PE “Delovie Media”. The Zhlobin metallurgists presented their developments in the special nomination “Power efficient technologies and processes”. The BMZ project “Oxygen technology of steel melting at EAF” was recognized as the best.
- The idea of this contest is of current interest for BMZ, because we consume a lot of power for production. This power makes up about 15 % of concast billet and bloom prime cost. Cutting these production costs makes the products – produced in melting shop-1, mill 320, mill 150 - competitive (price-wise), - said the head of energy-saving dpt. Alexander Gorevoi (BMZ).
As for the winning project, it should be noted that the melting process with oxygen allows decreasing electric power supplied through electrodes. The adoption of this technology decreases electric power consumed by EAF by 20% which reduced electric power costs to the amount of $6,1 mln for 10 months of 2015 (versus steel melting process before oxygen technology).
It should be noted that 37 works were presented at the contest, the participants were not only from Belarussian enterprises, but foreign companies that develop power efficient technologies.
