BMZ is the first in Belarus to make a corporate social report in accordance with the international GRI standard
Public hearing of 2008 Corporate Social Report of RUE “Byelorussian Steel Works” was held on the 9 of October, 2009, BELTA communicates. As was pointed out by Lyudmila Istomina, coordinator of economic and social development projects of the UN Development Program, BMZ was the first not only to prepare a report according to the globally accepted international GRI standard, but it organized hearing of the report attracting the general public.
BMZ signed the Global Impact in September, 2008 thus joining the large international initiative in the area of corporate social responsibility. At the same time the enterprise received a corresponding certificate. Participation in the Global Impact anticipates preparation of a corporate social report during two years. BMZ fulfilled this complicated and laborious task during one year. According to Lyudmila Istomina, having made the report BMZ staked a serious claim to increasing its competitiveness in the world. The Byelorussian enterprise accepted a high standard of social responsibility along with world-known brands.
At present about 70 Byelorussian enterprises and business associations announced their corporate social responsibility. Signing of the Global Impact evidences their care of the personnel, introduction of international standards, improvement of their product quality and social investments for the benefit of the development of their own enterprise and the people inhabiting the region and the country as well.
Ceremonial presentation of the UN Initiative «Global Impact» in Belarus took place on the 20th of December, 2006. In March 2007 a national network of participants of the Global Impact in Belarus was formed.
For reference: Byelorussian Steel Works was built in 1984. Now it is an export-oriented enterprise which products are delivered to over 50 countries worldwide. BMZ specializes in manufacturing cast billet, structural shapes, rolled section and reinforcing steel, tire cord, hose wire and other types of steel wire. In July 2007 the enterprise commissioned hot-deformed seamless pipe facility.
