Byelorussian Steel Works approved the plan for steel cord and wire production capacity increase on February 16, 2009
Byelorussian Steel Works approved the plan for steel cord and wire production development for the current year.
According to the actions planned it is supposed to enlarge the plant’s capacity of cold-deformed reinforcing steel, wire for general mechanical rubber industry and steel fiber during the year.
At present the plant completes realization of the project aimed at the increase of fiber production capacity in half up to 3,6 thousand tpy. In the second half of January the plant received 4 Italian machines for anchor fiber production. Installation and commissioning of the machines will be completed by the end of February. Before that the plant has had 8 automatic machines manufactured by its own specialists. In February we plan to manufacture 120 tons of fiber, i.e 20% more than in January.
We would like to remind that the plant uses high-carbon wire (residues from wire for general mechanical rubber goods) as the raw material for fiber production. To redraw the wire diameter over 1 mm, a new GCR Eurodraw (Italy) drawing machine will be delivered to the site in June. Its capacity is about 10 thousand tpy. The equipment will be commissioned in August.
Besides, in July – August SWS-3 will start installation of 2 GCR Eurodraw (Italy) lines for cold-drawn reinforcing steel according to DIN488, diameter 6 – 12 mm total capacity of which is approximately 40 thousand tpy. At present this product is manufactured in one DJR (Italy) line the capacity of which is loaded to the full (about 24 thousand tpy). To enlarge the capacity of bead wire, tire cord and hose wire production, a 13-block direct-flow drawing machine made by GCR Eurodraw (Italy) and a descaler will be installed at SWS-1 at the beginning of the 2nd half-year . Commissioning of the new machine will allow to manufacture part of the wire diameter 1,3-2 mm for general mechanical rubber goods in one technological route (at the moment it is manufactured in two drafts). The machine designed capacity is about 12 thousand tpy. In the descaling line the surface of wire rod will be prepared for drawing in the new machine. The line output will be appr. 14 thousand tpy.
Agreements were reached and contracts were signed for the delivery of the above equipment except the descaling line: the contract for its delivery is planned to be signed till the end of this month.
In 2008 Byelorussian Steel Works produced 305,3 thousand tons of steel which is 7% more than in the previous year including 96,3 thousand tons of tire cord (+11%), 42,7 thousand tons of hose wire- (6%), 38,4 thousand tons of bead wire (+8%), and 127,9 thousand tons of other types of wire (+9%).
